Officers responded to a report of shots fired in Bridgeport on Willow Street near Clermont Avenue where a large block party was taking place around 9:45 p.m., Monday, May 31.

When officers arrived on the scene, they spotted a Black man wearing all black clothing with a hoodie displaying a gun who took off running toward Bridgeport Hospital, said Scott Appleby, the City of Bridgeport's Director of Emergency Management.

While looking for the man, police called for medical assistance for a 31-year-old Bridgeport woman who was struck by a pickup truck as she was fleeing from the gunfire.

The female victim was transported to Bridgeport Hospital and is listed in critical condition. The driver of that pickup remained on-scene, Appleby said.
